Exploring Music with Band

Band Basics is a vibrant activity where inquisitive children are invited to be explorers in a musical world by playing brass and wind band instruments.

Students rotate through Trumpet, Saxophone, Trombone and Flute band instruments to play, discover and experience the fun and joy of music sharing and making.

All the benefits of learning music

Instruments and materials are provided for learning, and students can begin their musical pathway of playing in School Instrumental Music Programs, or for pleasure and community music making.

Besides the social and fine-motor skill development, the Band Basics program will satisfy the curiosity of how musical instruments work and how music is created.

New Technology. New Knowledge. New Experiences.

The Band Basics course musically enriches students by learning songs and basic technique through playing many Band Instruments. Using new technology in making music instruments, Band Basics students play on age and size appropriate instruments that are light, colorful, easy-care and hygienic, yet sound identical to their full size versions.

Band Basics Instruments

All instruments are designed with the very young beginner in mind and require minimal, if any, setting up by the student.

Flute

Made of silver plated nickel like traditional flutes, this one includes a curved head-joint and has a right hand thumb rest which simplifies the holding and balancing of the instrument, making what was a challenge for children easy and natural. Removal of additional keys reduces the weight and size making it ideal for the young players.

Trumpet & Trombone

P-bone and the P-trumpet are made of plastic and carbon fiber so this instrument is incredibly light weight and robust. It has the added advantage of a treated mouthpiece that prevents bacteria. Sounds and operates just like the traditional brass instruments and is ergonomic for growing hands.

Saxophone

New to the market this instrument is made of light weight brass and shaped like a soprano and is extremely light weight. Made to the same quality as the traditional saxophone, this new instrument eliminates the low keys and side key mechanisms that are not used in the first stages of learning.

Students are expected to bring their loaned instrument and music book to each session.

Students experience one Brass (Trumpet or Trombone) and one Woodwind (Flute or Saxophone) each term.

This is a Full Year ASA and no re-registration for Term Two is required.

The rules are that sharing of instruments is not permitted in the class.

Students are given advice on how to clean and care for the instrument and mouthpiece.

Although carefully sourced and acquired for their robust attributes, the instruments should be handled with care.
