Musicians grow faster when they play together.

Genesis students learn both in instrument specific classes as well as together to listen, respond, and elevate their playing within a group ensemble setting.

Genesis Band musicians directly learn an instrument - like Flute, Clarinet, Trumpet, Trombone, or Euphonium - with the opportunity to transition to other instruments later.

Explore, try out and find ‘your’ instrument.

All Band instruments are available to loan for an extra fee.

Where Young Band Players Find Their Style

There's a moment in every young musician's life when playing alone stops being enough—playing with others to make music is a core goal of being a musician.

Genesis Band focusses on being a musical team.

It's our beginning Band ensemble for young players in Hong Kong, guided every week by the Third Note philosophy of exploring

What your child will gain

Genesis Band is designed around clear, achievable goals. Over the program, your young musician will:

  • Build confidence in performing and deepen their knowledge of music techniques and concepts

  • Develop teamwork and cooperation through the give-and-take of playing in a group

  • Refine listening skills, organisational skills, and eye-hand coordination

  • Sight read with confidence, interpreting and expressing music stylistically

  • Consolidate rhythmic and pitch patterns until they become second nature

  • Develop the personal habits and processes that make learning music sustainable and rewarding

  • Perform a range of genres, from the rich Wind Ensemble repertoire

Celebrating Your Musical Journey

During the term time with regular rehearsals students get wonderful opportunities to celebrate their achievements and showcase their progress. This ‘concert shares’ are more than just playing—they're a chance for children to experience the joy of performing together, reinforcing teamwork and collaboration.

They also provide clear learning goals, helping students focus on specific skills and preparing them for even greater musical challenges ahead. Parents are invited to join these share sessions to see how far their children have come, making it a shared moment of pride and connection for everyone involved.

More than notes on a page

Most ensembles teach you to play your part. Genesis teaches you to listen for everyone else's too.

If you've got a child who taps out rhythms on the kitchen table and lights up at the sound of a trumpet, Genesis Band at Third Note is where that spark becomes real music. This beginner-friendly program meets weekly, giving young students a safe, supportive, and well-structured place to learn their first instrument.Your child will explore a range of repertoire and come away not just a better player, but a better listener and musical team player.

How the program works

Genesis Band is made for beginners, so there's no need to worry if your child has never played before. Most of our students are picking up a band instrument for the very first time, or have only just started lessons on the instrument they've chosen.

All they need is a little enthusiasm and a willingness to try. With small groups, a friendly atmosphere, and a teacher who has spent years nurturing children at exactly this stage, it's a safe and welcoming space for those very first notes — and, before long, that first real piece of music played with friends.

We welcome musicians of all backgrounds and school affiliations! We offer tailored programs for students aged 7 and above, as well as dedicated adult classes.

To best support learning and musical growth, our classes are divided into Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced groupings. For your convenience, students can also loan instruments for home practice or secure exclusive use of an instrument during ensemble classes.
