JazzBand

Overview

Jazz Band is where young musicians come to explore, improvise, and groove together. Each week, students dive into the styles, sounds, and spirit of jazz alongside an experienced jazz band director who makes every session fun, hands-on, and a little bit surprising.

You'll learn the language of jazz, find your own voice as a player, and feel what it's like to ‘jam’ with a band - there's a seat waiting for you.

Core Jazz Instruments, like woodwind are brass are encouraged to join - alongside a rhythm section of keyboard, drums, bass and lead guitar to discover the enjoyment of playing Jazz.

What You'll Learn

Every session, you'll build real jazz skills that put you in the driver's seat:

  • Explore the many styles of jazz, from smooth swing to bold bebop

  • Master the articulations that give jazz its signature feel

  • Decode jazz chord progressions and understand how the music fits together

  • Improvise with confidence and learn to create solos on the spot

  • Speak the language of jazz fluently, both as a soloist and a bandmate

The best part? You learn it all by doing it, surrounded by other musicians who are figuring it out right alongside you.

We welcome musicians of all backgrounds and school affiliations! We offer tailored programs for students aged 7 and above, as well as dedicated adult classes.

To best support learning and musical growth, our classes are divided into Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced groupings. For your convenience, students can also loan instruments for home practice or secure exclusive use of an instrument during ensemble classes.
