Be in the Band.

MicraMusic delivers the vibrant HKIS UP Band program with dedicated Woodwind, Brass and Percussion instrumental music education.

The Band After School Activity (ASA) features enriching and enjoyable music learning experiences with convenient music instrument rental and service.

The Upper Primary Band is open to all grades and consists of three ASA programs:

Band Basics - Exploratory program for Grade 3 students. (Ideal for students who want to play in band, but want to survey instrument choices).

Genesis Band - Students commencing focused learning of their Band Instrument. (Suitable for new Beginning students, Band Basics Graduates, or have been learning a Band instrument for a short period of time).

Rising Band - One or more years Band Instrument experience. (Suitable for Genesis Band graduates, current Rising Band students, students who have been learning a Band instrument through non-school tuition for longer periods of time).

UP Band Objectives.

Use Band Instruments to learn how to read and communicate in a new language – Music. 

Engage in teamwork and cooperation by working together to create and perform Band music.

Refine listening skills, improve organisational skills and develop better eye and hand coordination

Boost self-esteem, learn perseverance, strengthen social skills and develop friendships, by being "In the Band".

The Upper Primary Band Program is supported through the HKIS After School Activities Program and delivered as an extension of the HKIS Instrumental Music Program through MicraMusic Ltd directed by Mr. Craig Lovett.

All Inclusive Instrumental Music Education

Band Instruction Fees include a full year of Instrumental Music classes and ensemble class. All materials and instruments for the instrument learning in both semesters is provided through Levy Fees.

Each student receives two classes per week during the school year according to the published calendar.

This 10 minute video outlines the HKIS UP Band Program, and includes an overview of each of the UP Bands, and an introduction of the Five Core UP Band instruments. From 2021, Beginning Band will be known as the Genesis Band.

Learning a new instrument develops a new set of knowledge and skills, that are transferable to other learning areas.

Yes, it is challenging at times but learning any instrument is also meant to be fun. It’s a safe way for kids to have fun and experience accomplishment while learning something new.

 

Motor skills

This extra-curricular activity strengthens mind-body coordination, thus improving hand-eye coordination and rhythm.

Being a musician doesn’t just happen overnight - the path to success requires patience and practice.

Confidence

Performing in front of a crowd, growing confidence, and being a part of the team - great experiences for a developing adolescent.
