The String Ensemble is a ‘classical’ group of instrumentalists including the Violin divided as - First Violin (Melody dominant) and Second Violin (Harmonic and Rhythmic support), the rich alto tone of the Viola, the Violoncello, a low pitched instrument know as the cell, and the Double Bass - a versatile instrument providing the core of harmony and rhythm in Jazz Bands, Rock and Contemporary styles as well as Classical Music.

 

Upper Primary String Program ASA.

Quality Stringed Instrument education is the focus of the After School Activities String program, with an emphasis on variety in ensemble choices for young Upper Primary String Musicians.

Students at the very start of their String journey, and experienced string musicians can enjoy the fun and the beauty of playing the Violin, Viola, Cello or Double Bass, with easy-to-access and engaging String ensemble experiences.

Collaboration is at the core of the string program.

From the beginner student, to the accomplished musician, the new After School Activity String Classes are sure to suit varied skills, invigorate young minds, and feed and grow the love of music.

Making music together, expressing through playing, and building ensemble skills in fun, friendly and focussed ensemble to suit student skills and interests.

Program Overview

 

Allegra is the ensemble for young musicians at the start of their String Instrument journey. Allegra means cheerful, joyful and lively - an apt description of both the students and ensemble. Allegra is the start of a life-long affection for String Instruments.

The Brio ensemble is a perfect ensemble for students to hone their playing skills. A variety of repertoire and learning experiences to support individual and ensemble musical growth feature in this ensemble. Brio means vigour, vivacity and spirit - three qualities that exemplify the intermediate student.

Students in the Con Brio class, exhibit developing skills on Bowed String instruments, often having over two years of experience. They refine technical and aural skills while honing ensemble playing and consolidating technique and musical skills. The class meets twice weekly for technical and skills focus session and ensemble refinement, building on complex concepts and expectations for musical growth.

Caprice means spirited, free and virtuosic. Typically, students in this group would have strong performance skills, yet desire to learn the skills of string synchrony, and the expressive nuances of playing high level music as a team of musicians.

The Onsom Orchestra aim is to provide enthusiastic String, Wind, Brass and Percussion students to collaboratively rehearse and perform as an orchestral ensemble, enabling it’s participants to further enrich the musical education and performance experience of the UP Band and String ASA musicians.

Musicians are selected by the conductor to participate in this ensemble.
